New NHS Clinical Commissioners co-chair appointed

Barbara Rushton, the chair of South Eastern Hampshire CCG, has been appointed as NHS Clinical Commissioners’ (NHSCC’s) new co-chair.

She will join Graham Jackson, who is the clinical lead at Buckinghamshire ICS, in the job on 1 October.

The former co-chair, Amanda Doyle, finished her term of office on 31 July after four years in the role and will be a “really hard act to follow,” according to Rushton.

Rushton said: “I feel honoured to be elected as co-chair and am very excited to be given this opportunity to support CCGs across the country to ensure their local communities receive the best healthcare and health outcomes possible.

“I passionately believe that clinicians need to play a key role in shaping the future NHS and NHS Clinical Commissioners brings them together to have a strong voice.”

“I am ready to take on the challenge and ensure that CCGs continue to work together and learn from each other as they commission the best possible services for local people.”

Rushton was elected to the board as the representative for south east England in July 2017.

Dr Jackson, the other co-chair, said: “Having worked closely with Barbara on the NHSCC board I am extremely pleased that she will be joining me as co-chair in October.

“Barbara’s wealth of experience as a GP and her commitment to clinical commissioning will be indispensable as NHSCC continues to influence national policy to ensure that patients, populations and the local clinical voice are at the heart of the health and care system.”
