Struggling CCG to be run by leader of outstanding neighbour
North Tyneside CCG, which is in financial special measures, is to enter joint management arrangements with its neighbour, Newcastle Gateshead.
North Tyneside was one of 26 CCGs to have financial special measures imposed in July after being rated ‘inadequate’.
Mark Adams, chief officer at Newcastle Gateshead, which was rated ‘outstanding’, will take over the additional role of chief officer at North Tyneside from April.
Adams said: “Having shared management arrangements in place will mean that we can all gain economies of scale as we commission from the same set of providers.
“We also think we can share innovation between us and there will be more opportunities to create services that will benefit patients.
“This change is focused on a joint management structure and patients and the public should not notice any difference in service provision.”
The two CCGs will remain separate statutory organisations and the arrangements will be kept under review.
The latest NHS figures show that CCGs as a whole have overspent their budgets by £240m so far this year.
