Ex-NHS trust chief receives £1.2 million pay-out

John Watkinson, the ex-chief executive of the Royal Cornish Hospital Trust , has received over a million pounds in compensation, following an employment investigation which found that he was dismissed unfairly.

The ruling was swiftly followed by calls from local health service unions to protect patients and local NHS services against any reduction in funds, due to Mr Watkinson’s payout.

A Unison representative said that local people should not see ‘a reduction in services, because of this ruling’.

The spokesperson told the BBC: "There is an independent inquiry going on. Maybe that will identify who should eventually foot the bill for this."
