Heart attack survival depends on postcode, says study

A study by the University of Leicester has found that a person’s chances of surviving a heart attack can depend on which postcode they live in.

The study – which was looking into the link between hypertension and heart attacks – found that you were more likely to die from a heart attack if you lived in a deprived area.

Those involved with the study have pointed out that effect hypertension detection could do a lot to reduce people’s risk of heart attacks.

Professor Richard Baker, one of the co-authors and Director of the CLAHRC said: “This would provide an example for other parts of the country, and other countries, on what can be achieved through simple, low cost measures.
“There is an urgent need for an effective programme, as the city of Leicester has one of the highest death rates from heart attacks in England.”
