No pain free solution, says NHS Confederation
The NHS Confederation has said that the NHS will have to experience a certain amount of pain to deal with the financial challenges it faces.
Jo Webber, deputy director of policy at the NHS Confederation said:
“The NHS faces a cocktail of financial pressures – not least the need to find £15-20 billion in savings over the next four years – and this is undoubtedly proving challenging. A reduction in the number of posts in the health service, and the way they are deployed, was always likely to be part of the solution.
“Trusts are working really hard to ensure savings are found without the need to resort to significant numbers of redundancies or an erosion in the standard of care. But tough decisions are having to be made and no one should be under the illusion that there is a pain-free solution.
The comments come after figures from the Royal College of Nursing showed that some front line staff could lose their jobs over the coming years.
