CPFT no longer in breach – Monitor
Cambridgeshire & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) is no longer in significant breach of its terms of authorisation as a FT, Monitor has announced.
In March 2012, the trust was asked to address a range of issues, including a board that was slow to address poor performance at ward level. Since then CPFT has improved the effectiveness of its patient assessment and care planning procedures and has implemented changes to tackle weaknesses in governance.
Adam Cayley, regional director of provider regulation at Monitor, said: “This is a really positive development for patients of the trust. In the last year, we have worked closely with its Board to successfully tackle the issues that prevented the trust from delivering appropriate care to its patients.
“The trust’s board has now implemented a number of changes to address our concerns about its oversight of services for patients and its engagement with clinical staff.
“Our intervention and the trust’s response show how a robust regulatory regime for foundation trusts is working effectively to promote and protect the interests of patients.”
Chief executive Dr Attila Vegh called it an “amazing turnaround”.
She said: “It has been an extremely difficult year for everyone who works here. We have had to make some major changes. It has been a big learning curve for us all in the way we provide health care. But this has all been worth it.
“The trust has had to identify and improve the way the organisation is being run. We have introduced new initiatives such as ‘Stop the Line’, which empowers staff at all levels to highlight patient safety issues and deal with them quickly; we have streamlined our divisions from five to three and taken out a layer of management, putting clinical staff at the forefront of decision-making at the trust; our inpatient and community teams had to compile weekly reports on their performance, and we have appointed a new clinical leadership to drive the trust forward.”
