HEE quality framework for health education launched

A framework to ensure quality in health education has been launched by Health Education England (HEE).

The quality standards in the framework include ensuring a culture which responds to feedback and encourages learners to be honest when things go wrong; transparent and accountable governance practices; educational and pastoral support to learners including adjustments under the Equality Act; and ensuring that programmes comply with national and HEE regulatory standards.

HEE local teams will work with their partners to test the framework, the quality standards and the National Education and Training Survey during 2016, and HEE is planning a Quality Conference later in 2016 to share the learning from this testing and implementation phase.

Professor Wendy Reid, director of education and quality and medical director at HEE, whom NHE interviewed last year, said: “Through this work we will have a consistent and comparable view of quality in education and training across England.

“It will enable HEE and our partners to continually drive improvements in the quality of learning and assessment to ensure our current and future healthcare workforce have the right skills, values and behaviours to deliver high quality patient care.

“We consider this to be a positive proposition to the entire health and care educational system and it underpins HEE's role as a system leader in education and training.”
