Homeless health conference line-up announced
Health minister Anna Soubry is to speak at the UK’s first international homeless health conference, which runs from February 27-28.
Better identification and treatment of homeless people could save the NHS millions, with current estimates suggesting they cost eight times as much as other patients to treat.
The conference is organised by the Faculty for Homeless and Inclusion Health to bring together multi-disciplinary experience and international lessons that can be applied to the NHS.
Themes include the health costs and consequences of homelessness, experience from the US and working with tri-morbid patients – those suffering from alcohol or drug abuse, mental health problems and chronic and acute physical illness.
Other speakers include Professor Sir Michael Marmot, Duncan Selbie from Public Health England, Professor Aidan Halligan, Professor Steve Field, Professor Barry McCormick CBE, Dr Nigel Hewett and Dr Al Story.
The conference is being promoted by national homeless health charity Pathway.
