Hospital services merge proposal recommended for approval
Plans to centralise children’s and maternity services in Shropshire are being recommended for approval by the chief executives of the two hospital trusts involved.
Services would move from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, while a midwife-led maternity unit for low-risk pregnancies and acute in-patient abdominal and vascular surgery would be based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The plans have generated mass opposition, including a 20,000-signature petition protesting against the idea.
But both chief executives said their boards should vote in favour when they decide on Thursday.
Leigh Griffin, Joint Chief Executive for Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire County Primary Care Trusts welcomed people’s feedback on the plans.
