Monitor to investigate South Tees Hospital FT
South Tees Hospital NHS FT is being formally investigated over long waiting times for treatment, Monitor has announced.
The trust has failed to meet the national 18-week referral to treatment time (RTT) target for three quarters over the past 12 months. An increase in C.difficile cases and a rise in reported ‘never events’ could signal wider problems in the way the trust is run.
A formal investigation has been launched into whether the trust has breached its licence.
Robert Davidson, regional director for the North at Monitor, said: “Patients rightly expect the highest possible standards of care from their local hospital. We’ve got concerns that this isn’t always happening at South Tees and that’s why we have launched this investigation.”
The trust says its aim is a “zero-harm culture".
