New Confed initiative set to ‘radically transform’ NHS financing
NHS Confederation has launched a new Local Growth Academy to help “radically transform” how NHS organisations tap into opportunities in their local economies.
The cross-sectoral initiative, established alongside the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), Universities UK and the Local Government Association, has been launched to help NHS organisations, along with universities and local authorities, understand and access new infrastructure finance mechanisms.
It is hoped that the initiative will support health organisations to build individual and collective capacities to act as “more sophisticated clients” when developing large-scale collaborative projects, as well as maximise their contribution to, and involvement in, local developments.
The Local Growth Academy also looks to strengthen collaborative work across different public sector institutions, enabling them to share innovation and best practice in new partnerships.
The initiative forms part of NHS Confederation’s wider programme of work to support NHS organisations’ involvement in local economic growth.
Its sessions will be delivered by public agencies and professional service firms selected by the academy’s steering group, bringing together leaders from across the public, health and higher education sectors.
The academy will open doors to its first intake from this April, with sessions split across four regional groups yet featuring similar content in order to ensure best practice is shared between areas. The groups will meet twice, with each module consisting of two successive working days.
With the course costing £399, it is hoped that the academy will see applications from aspiring future leaders of the NHS or senior members of teams with responsibility for finance, transformation or management of external stakeholders.
