New Transformation Director appointed at NHS SBS

NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) have appointed David Shields as its new Transformation Director, who will look to help the organisation deliver on a number of key strategic initiatives.

He will support the ongoing digital transformation and improved efficiency of corporate services across the NHS.

Mr Shields brings with him a wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors, having previously delivered major transformation programmes for both the UK and US governments. He has also held leadership positions across a wide range of industries, including financial services, aviation, manufacturing and business process outsourcing (BPO) service sectors.

His last public sector role was as Managing Director of Government Procurement Services (now known as Crown Commercial Service), where he led a two-year transformation programme which deliver over £5bn savings for the UK taxpayer.

Since then, Mr Shields has managed a number of other major transformation programmes, including supporting the US Federal Government in implementing enhanced procurement capabilities.

Following his appointment to the organisation’s executive management team, he will work to support NHS SBS’ focus on expanding its capability to provide value-for-money solutions to the NHS, which optimise new digital innovations and deliver an enhanced NHS user experience.

Speaking of the appointment of her new colleague, NHS SBS Managing Director Erika Bannerman said: “I am pleased that David has accepted this role supporting me and NHS SBS in delivering high-quality services and solutions to the NHS - particularly important during such uniquely challenging times.

"David brings exceptional public and private sector experience and has supported numerous transformation programmes across the world. I look forward to seeing how his experience and expertise can significantly benefit the NHS."
