Peer support programme for senior clinicians to be piloted in 2015
A new strategic peer support programme to support senior clinicians in NHS trusts who are responding to challenging and complex service issues is being piloted.
The project, coordinated by NHS Improving Quality (NHS IQ) and the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM), is aimed at senior clinical leaders who require support in delivering service transformation in their trusts.
The programme will pair participants with 'expert peers', who have either been through a similar process or have proven experience of successfully leading transformational change or improvement. They will also have previous experience of mentoring at a senior level.
Peter Lees, chief executive and medical director at FMLM, said: “We have long recognised the need to support our senior medical leaders, who are often facing unprecedented challenges within their organisations or services.
“This programme is a welcome opportunity to begin to do this, through peer support and facilitated workshops, and realise the potential of our workforce to create a sustainable NHS.”
The programme will consist of supported peer meetings and development days where the paired individuals can come together to share their experience.
Commencing in January and continuing to September 2015, the initial programme is a small-scale ‘proof of concept’ project developed with a limited number of partners.
Based on the evaluation findings, the programme has the potential to be rolled out more widely across health and social care.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday 14 January 2015, midnight. For more details, click here.
