Skillsoft supporting NHS trusts, employees with online learning

Words provided by Skillsoft, editorially reviewed by National Health Executive

Testing times. Trying times. Challenging times. Whatever lens you choose to view the extraordinary way we’re living our lives at the moment, there is one thing that will help see us through the challenges that inevitably will come our way. Perseverance. Perseverance is both a process and a quality. Perseverance might not come to us all naturally - but it can be learned.

Learning and development is something that Skillsoft excels at. We have opened up our learning and training services so that they are now freely available to all NHS staff and their families. Skillsoft is working hard to continuously innovate and evolve to meet the needs of those working remotely, whatever their goals, circumstances or aspirations.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again

Perseverance is a very active word.  Abraham Lincoln famously said: “You cannot fail if you resolutely determine you will not fail.” Easy to say but not always so easy to put into practice. Achieving goals requires grit, persistence and adaptability. Being resilient and able to get back up when you are knocked down helps you stay the course and thrive in an ever more competitive business environment.

The video below is a great example of one in a series that is now freely available to NHS trusts, employees and their families until August 6, 2020.

This Skillsoft course helps explore realistic goal setting and how to recognise the challenges that might be encountered as you work to achieve them. The course also covers the characteristics of an adaptive mindset and how to develop and nurture the personal persistence necessary for facing both day-to-day and uncommon obstacles that threaten to derail efforts.

Perseverance is good for our mental health

In May we observed Mental Health Awareness Week, an annual initiative aimed at keeping the issue of mental health high on the agenda and raising awareness of the challenges that people with mental illness face. According to this scientific paper, those who persevere, refuse to give up on achieving their goals and approach challenges with a positive outlook face lower risk of clinical depression, general anxiety and panic disorder.

Life can be - and is - challenging. At Skillsoft we are trying to play our part in helping people find ways to work through these uncertain times. We know we do not have all the answers, and indeed, we cannot solve the multitude of challenges we face, but we hope this access to learning material will be in some ways, beneficial.

Free to access and easy to use

A simple registration process enables users to take advantage of the Skillsoft’s vast library of Business & Technology Courseware, eBooks, Audio Books, Videos, and hands-on Practice Labs.  Skillsoft is confident there is something that everyone can learn from its offering, be it a technical discipline like Software Coding or Accountancy; how to build macros in Excel or a soft skill such as Time Management.

Skillsoft’s platform is intuitive and simple to use.  It is modeled on the consumer web experiences people have come to expect with a simple interface, personalised playlists and one-click access to content.  Think Netflix, for example.  The platform also caters to people’s busy schedules by delivering micro-learning (three to five minute videos) plus a mobile app so learning can happen anywhere, anytime, and on any device.

There is no cost and no restrictions on access to the service for the duration of offer.  Simply put, this is Skillsoft’s way of saying “Thank You” to everyone in the extended NHS family for the heroic service you are providing to this country.

Anyone interested in registering for this offer can do so quickly and simply by visiting: Free access to online learning for NHS trusts, employees and their families
