Stroke care improves – SINAP
The quality of stroke care in England is improving, new figures from the Stroke Improvement National Audit Programme (SINAP) suggest.
The audit is commissioned by Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) on behalf of the Intercollegiate Stroke Working Party by the Royal College of Physicians’ Clinical Standards Department.
The number of patients who had a brain scan within one hour increased from 37% in the previous quarter to 40%. 92% of patients were scanned within 24 hours and 85% also saw a stroke consultant within this time.
The latest data shows 68% of patients were directly admitted to a stroke unit, and reached this within four hours, while 69% of those who were eligible received thrombolysis.
81% of patients nationally had a continence plan drawn up – if necessary – within 72 hours, compared to 78% in the previous quarter.
