Healthcare workers’ comfort top of agenda for Tecman in PPE investment

While many businesses have struggled in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Tecman Advanced Material Engineers saw an opportunity to adapt in response to the crisis and assist the national efforts.

Their brand new range of CE marked face and eye protection products – developed with the comfort of healthcare workers at its heart – is catapulting the business to new levels of innovation.

The Leamington-based manufacturer has already opened a new site that is dedicated to the production of healthcare products such as protective face shields for NHS workers.

The new West Midlands-based premises includes 100,000 sq ft of storage, a new automation system to streamline production and state-of-the-art machinery to boost manufacturing capacity.

The latest investment includes a brand new, dedicated production line to enable the business to produce over 1 million CE marked, disposable shields each week, under the name Tecman Advanced Healthcare Products.

Comfort is key

Not content with just this achievement, the team at Tecman are also planning for a new generation of personal protective equipment (PPE) with improved comfort levels – and they’re involving UK healthcare workers in the development process.

In order to create the best possible protective products, the team at Tecman are setting up focus groups to consult healthcare workers on their comfort needs and concerns. The resulting feedback will be incorporated throughout every step of the design process.

Healthcare workers have been required to wear PPE face masks throughout their shifts due to Covid-19 and many existing designs do not have comfort for the wearer factored highly in the design process. The team at Tecman are looking to change this with a new generation of PPE

These ambitious plans support Tecman’s long-term vision to become a global leader in the development and manufacture of face and eye protection.

Quality and safety

Every product in Tecman’s face and eye protection range will meet the same standards as the disposable face shield, which complies with stringent British standards, CE marked BS EN166:2002 and incorporates both optical grade film and medical grade materials.

Kevin Porter, Tecman’s Technical Director, said: “Developing and manufacturing effective products to support front line workers has already enable us to protect tens of thousands of healthcare workers.

“This next step will position Tecman firmly on the road to becoming a world leader in the manufacture of face and eye protection.”
