Sexual health ‘crisis’

This report was commissioned by two organisations with a financial interest in maintaining the status quo.

There are a lot of coulds and mights...it is not unreasonable to look at all services to improve efficiencies and ensure the most vulnerable and at risk are targeted, in the current climate.

For example older, empowered women use weekend contraception services for convenience and to avoid taking time off work – but we all take time off work for the dentist etc – they can use their GPs.

Chlamydia screening should stop – we have lots of chlamydia testing options which patients frequently access. The chlamydia screening service is a complete waste of public resources and a distraction because of the constant monitoring of targets, not to mention the additional payments to GPs to incentivise them to test...
