Southall practice taken out of special measures by CQC
A Southall medical practice has been taken out of special measures following being granted a ‘good’ rating after a CQC inspection.
Dr Naz Asghar’s surgery in the London borough of Ealing was rated good for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, after the inspection in May 2018.
The inspection was to confirm that the practice had carried out its plan to meet the legal requirements in relation to the breaches in regulations that CQC identified in a previous inspection.
Inspectors found the practice now had clear systems to manage risk, and that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved their processes, the report said.
The practice could demonstrate that the healthcare assistant had the knowledge and skills to carry out their clinical duties and that there were detailed protocols in line with their role.
Professor Ursula Gallagher, deputy chief inspector, Primary Medical Services, said: “It is always pleasing to tell patients that a practice has improved so much as to be now rated as ‘Good.’
“I recognise the work and the commitment of staff at Dr Naz Asghar’s practice and have confidence that they will wish to continue to improve the care they provide to patients.”
Areas where the practice should make improvements included the continuing to improve uptake rates for cervical and bowel cancer screening, and should review and take “appropriate action” in improving access to nursing appointments outside of school hours.
In addition, the report noted there was a focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation. Staff involved and treated patients with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.
Feedback from patients and comment cards showed patients found the appointment system easy to use and reported that they were able to access care when they needed it.
