New state-of-the-art care home to open in Nottingham
A new state-of-the-art care home is set to be opened in Nottingham by early 2021, as part of an upcoming £30m trade park development in the city.
Gedling Borough Council has approved planning permission for the 66-bedroom care home for people with both residential care and residential dementia care needs.
Alongside the care home, the Nottingham trade park will also feature other businesses including a cinema, garden room, library, hairdressing salon and a café.
The announcement comes at a time when recently published research by Alzheimer’s Europe has suggested the number of people with dementia across Europe is set to double by 2050.
Executive director of Alzheimer’s Europe, Jean Georges, said of the research: “The number of people living with the condition is set to increase substantially in the years ahead, which will only place greater pressure on care and support services unless better ways of treating and preventing dementia are identified.
“If people with dementia, their families and carers are to receive the high-quality and person-centred care they need, governments must ensure their health and care systems are ready to meet this demand and greater investments in research into the treatment and prevention of dementia are needed.”
