Medical community grieve death of Clare Rayner

Many within the medical community have been greatly saddened by the death of broadcaster and former nurse Claire Rayner.

Claire was also vice president of the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ASBAH) for a time.

Gill Winfield from ASBAH said: “From all the coverage in the media, it is clear to see how much of an impact Claire had on many people in our society.

“We were sad to hear of the death of Claire – a long-standing patron who was always ready to be a spokesperson for ASBAH and speak out on health issues affecting disabled people and their families.

“Claire understood the importance of spreading the message about folic acid to all women of childbearing age, who could become pregnant, to greatly reduce the risk of babies being born with spina bifida by taking a daily supplement of this vitamin.”
