Mental health trust rated best in south west London by the CQC

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) has been rated as the best provider in the south west of London, receiving a ‘good’ rating across all five domains assessed.

Highly positive feedback from patients and relatives, encouragement of innovation to improve patient care, and strong external work in the community with partners and stakeholders were amongst the positive outcomes of the inspection.

The CQC report also found examples of outstanding mental health practice in the community with family clinics to provide advice and support; community teams working with other bodies to ensure patients get the best care; and Richmond Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in developing social groups for young people.

The full report can be read here.

David Bradley, chief executive of SWLSTG, said: “We are delighted to receive a resounding good rating across all of our services. This is a well-deserved outcome for our patients, carers and the wider community we serve.

“We couldn’t have achieved this positive outcome without the hard work and dedication of all our staff who work tirelessly to improve the lives of our patients.”

Bradley added he was pleased that the CQC recognised the areas of ‘outstanding’ practice and the “open and transparent” culture of the organisation, in which staff can raise concerns and suggest improvements.

Dr Paul Lelliott, deputy chief inspector for mental health, said the trust was inspected eight times since 2014 and that, in 2016, the trust was rated as ‘requires improvement.’

Lelliott concluded: “Following that inspection, we re-rated the trust as ‘good’ overall, so it is pleasing that the trust has further improved those standards and is providing good care for the community it serves.”
