A slight correction
Due to a contextual error in a recent a story about the current state of finances at NHS Lothian, National Health Executive would like to apologise for any confusion caused by that story.
The issue is that until a new funding formula being used by the Scottish government to fund health boards is fully implemented – which is likely to happen over the next few years – NHS Lothian will have a shortfall of around £70 million in terms of the money it receives from the Scottish government.
Director of finance at the board, Susan Goldsmith, told the Scotsman newspaper : "It is a challenging time but we think we will break even for this year.”
