NHS Lothian tops cancer care statistics
Figures released by ISD Scotland have confirmed that NHS Lothian has provided the most prompt cancer treatment, following diagnosis.
The statistics showed that only 5 patients had not been treated within two months of diagnosis, since the beginning of 2010.
The health board’s chief operating officer for acute services, Jackie Sansbury, told The Scotsman newspaper: "Our staff have worked extremely hard to drive down and maintain waiting times in order to deliver the benefits to patients. Maintaining the lowest waiting times among mainland boards is a tremendous achievement and reflects this hard work.
"No-one should wait longer than necessary for treatment and we are continuing working to provide the best possible treatment in the shortest possible time."
