RSPH and CIMSPA form new health and fitness partnership

A new strategic partnership between the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) and the Chartered Institute for Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) has been set up to strengthen focus on health and fitness in the UK.

Alongside the announcement of the partnership, CIMSPA has published its Health Navigator Professional Standard, outlining professional standards for every role in sport and physical activity.

The RSPH is the first organisation to gain endorsement for this standard in support of their Level 3 Diploma in Health and Wellbeing Improvement.

This dual relationship will emphasise and develop the importance of exercise professionals within the health workforce, an idea that has been previously published in Going the Distance, a report from RSPH and UK Active.

Going the Distance explored the idea of including the 60,000 Exercise Professional Workforce into the public health system.

The link between healthcare and physical activity in on the rise, and this new collaboration aims to strengthen this connection and promote it within the public health industry.

The RSPH is the UK’s longest established public health body and CIMSPA is the professional development body for the sport and physical activity sector.

The partnership, diploma, and professional standards have been established to upskill health and fitness professionals, and support the NHS through health and sport as it was announced recently that swimming saves the NHS £357m a year.

CIMSPA CEO, Tara Dillon, said:

“We are pleased and excited to welcome RSPH into CIMSPA partnership and look forward to our ongoing work with them.

“Our new partnership with RSPH comes at a time when sport and physical activity’s connections to the health sector are growing increasingly more important and we believe that by growing and developing these partnerships, our work together can be a real positive force for change.

“I look forward to seeing the results of this partnership and furthering our vision of having a truly active nation, with a professional workforce that reflects the best of both of our sectors.”
