NHS starving the elderly, says report

Elderly NHS patients are being left to starve at some trusts, according to a report by charity Age UK.

The report, Hungry To Be Heard, found that patients were actually being less well nourished than when they came into the hospital.

Age UK director Michelle Mitchell said: ‘The Government must introduce compulsory monitoring. Age UK is also calling for a comprehensive review of hospital mealtimes.’

The report also found that many trust failed to screen for malnourishment in elderly patients and that many were not given help in cutting and eating their food.
