NHS trust using surfing to help treatment

In an effort to help patients with mental health issues, Cornwall Primary Care Trust has begun offering surfing lessons.

Despite drawing a little criticism, the trust is confident that the activity can give real benefits to patients with certain conditions.

A spokesperson for the PCT, said: "It's a long-established body of evidence which shows that when you organise therapeutic activities around particular tasks, people benefit not just from social interaction but also build confidence.

"That's been one of the tenets of occupational therapy which has been an established therapeutic discipline in all sections of health care for many decades."
