The move towards a 24/7 system of healthcare has taken another step forward today as the AoMRC published its new report on the importance of consultant presence in hospital.
The stark truth that patients are more likely to die at the weekend is becoming less and less acceptable in a modern health service, and standardising care has become a significant goal.
Both the problem and solution have been identified, clarified and set out in a myriad of recommendations. Now the NHS must work to change practices and implement the measures that will substantially improve care.
