Flu fears
Countless children going back to school this week will come down with flu by the weekend – despite the Government’s relaunch of the flu prevention campaign on New Year’s Day.
People in ‘at risk’ groups should of course get themselves vaccinated, but otherwise healthy children do not get the jab on the NHS. But why do so many pharmacies refuse to offer the vaccination to children and teenagers on a private basis? A mixture of regulation and company policy, they say. With more flu deaths expected, do the risks of vaccinating healthy children really outweigh the benefits – why not let pharmacies offer the jab to parents willing to pay for it?
