From misuse to useful
The Lancashire approach to substance misuse could be an innovative way to help addicts recover in the communities they aim to return to.
Volunteering can provide these people with a positive contribution they can offer to their communities, rather than simply being seen as a burden or unproductive member of society.
As well as making them more comfortable in their returning integration, this will obviously benefit the communities themselves, making it a positive solution for all involved.
Perhaps this is something that should be seen in other areas of the UK, instead of the simplistic treatment of abstention.
More holistic perspectives such as this allow patients to offer their abilities to improve their communities, whilst aiding the recovery process.
