Lancashire addiction projects promote integration
Two new projects are being launched inLancashireto help people recovering from substance misuse integrate back into their communities.
The Lancashire Drug and Alcohol Action Team (LDAAT) aims to build links through volunteering, education and employment in patient’s local areas.
The projects are called ‘Delivering Recovery in Volunteering Environments’ (DRIVE) and ‘Building Recovery in Communities’ (BRiC). To promote this integration, four new DRIVE workers are being employed through the Council for Voluntary Services inLancashire.
Strategic director of LDAAT, Tom Woodcock, said: “LDAAT is leading the way when it comes to providing recovery-based, modern, integrated drug and alcohol services. We wanted to go one step further with these two innovative projects by placing the emphasis very firmly on getting services users to look towards re-integrating into their communities in a useful way.
“Research suggests that recovery from substance misuse, is more likely to be successful and sustainable if it is combined with activities such as volunteering, education, sport, employment and coupled with better relationships and support networks.”
