Nicholson discusses NHS Commissioning Board
Two-thirds of the proposed £400m management costs of the NHS Commissioning Board will be spent directly on commissioning, according to NHS chief executive Sir David Nicholson
The Guardian newspaper reported that Nicholson, expected to become the new organisation’s chief executive, said it will “put the N in the NHS”.
Speaking at the Healthcare Innovation Expo in London yesterday, Nicholson said competition and co-operation can co-exist in the NHS, as it does throughout the rest of the economy.
He told the newspaper that he did not have a ‘correct’ size in mind for GP commissioning consortia, saying: “I think each consortium needs to be able to say how it can commission big as well as small.”
Nicholson added: “ We're going to set out what 'really good' looks like at a national level.”
