Prevention and practicality
The British Red Cross has conducted research which demonstrates how important preventative care can be for patients, as well as saving the health service significant amounts of money.
But the scale of the challenge, and the current squeeze on resources, on top of huge structural change, means that this may not be possible, at least for now.
The savings such an approach would provide would be greatly beneficial, but the time, money and staff may simply have too much to deal with to implement this at the moment.
Of course new problems will always arise and if not now, then when, is a pertinent question. At some point the sector will need to move more towards preventative practices, and what is practical may have to be stretched to achieve this.
