What added benefit will NHS Check bring to the health service, the people who use it, or even Labour themselves?
There is already ample evidence about health professionals’ opposition to the reforms. This led to the creation of multiple amendments, but the Health and Social Care Act is now law.
Labour has an obvious interest in keeping this particular controversy raging: having joined others in preaching doom and the end of the health service as we know it, they can’t risk people settling down and dealing with the coming changes and the chance they might actually work.
It is very unlikely that more attacks on the reforms, in a specially created and ultimately party-political space, will have any effect on their implementation: but giving people on the frontline a chance to get their concerns across to a wider audience can only be a good thing.
