Teething troubles
Primary paediatric dentistry needs some serious attention – undiagnosed problems are causing suffering for children and unnecessary costs for the NHS.
Monty Duggal, the head of paediatric dentistry at the NHS's Leeds Dental Institute, knows more than most the importance of early intervention. He is surely right that children’s teeth are being neglected, especially through milk teeth going untreated.
The fact that only 5-12% of decayed primary teeth are treated – causing undoubted pain, and often further complications – is telling and needs expert review.
