The gift of life
Only 4% of those who are able to donate blood actually do. This low supply is set to be exacerbated this summer when thousands of visitors to high profile public events require a greater stock to be compiled.
The NHS needs more people to donate, and to donate regularly, especially those with less common blood types. Raising awareness of the demand is one way to facilitate this, and the actual donation should be made as simple as possible to encourage more people to give blood.
The rapid decomposition of blood means that a constant supply is needed to keep stocks at an adequate level, so the drive is now on to secure 30% more.
