The trouble with mergers
One of the trusts identified as failing to be financially sustainable has merged with York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to improve services and cut costs.
This is one way to save a struggling trust, but what affect will this have onYork’s ability to provide quality services to an even wider area, whilst managing shaky finances?
A new approach and different management could provide a fresh start for theScarboroughtrust, but this merger means that a single organisation will be responsible for staff across ten different hospitals in the area.
Let’s hope this will be a good move for all departments involved, not just the last available option.
