Time to put down the battle axe
Andy Burnham’s claim that Labour will repeal the Health & Social Care Bill at the first opportunity is certainly dramatic, if not helpful in the slightest.
Of course it is understandable that after such a long battle to drop the Bill, it can be hard, if not politically impossible, to back down and accept the Government’s victory.
And there are still many who will welcome his declaration, as the level of opposition to the Bill remains high.
But attempting to reverse this decision and the legislation which will shortly be confirmed would only serve to add to the complexity and disturbance that the current restructuring is introducing to the NHS.
Instead, politicians need to begin to consider how they could the make the most of this change and move forwards to developing the best outcome from the reform.
