A growing crisis
Service provision for obesity has been severely criticised in the RCP’s latest report, which highlights considerable variation across trusts, as well as a lack of joined-up working.
The Government’s approach to obesity has also been slammed, with its reliance on just personal choice, rather than a society-wide initiative that examines the various causes and contributing factors to obesity.
The weight problem in the UK is down to far more than telling the public to eat less and exercise more. The NHS has its own part to play in recognising this message, and working to address the complications that stem from obesity in a more holistic manner.
If not, obesity-related disease and ill-health will become spiral even further out of control.
