Another tool in the box
A new toolkit has been developed to provide commissioners with effective guidance and support for planning and delivering rural health services.
Commissioners are facing the difficult task of taking responsibility for healthcare budgets over a range of services, some of which they may not be well versed in. This includes rare conditions and care based in rural areas.
Such commissioning requires a greater understanding of the issues involved, and the relevant institutes, organisations and groups of expertise must be proactive in their approach to bringing CCGs up to speed.
The more clear-cut this guidance is, with practical examples of best practice and opportunities for innovation, the more likely it is that quality care can be achieved across the board.
