BCS welcomes IT flexibility for trusts
BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, has welcomed the government’s stance on allowing trusts more flexibility in their IT arrangements.
Matthew Swindells, Chair of BCS Health, said, "BCS welcomes a more flexible approach to the national programme, but urges the Department of Health to ensure that this is a step towards the 'information revolution' with the department providing the standards and leadership that are needed to help a devolved NHS provide interoperable IT systems."
"The Department of Health and the new Commissioning Board must use their commissioning power to require any organisation providing services in the NHS to offer public access to quality and performance data, share of clinical information with other care providers and provide the tools to allow patients to take control of their own health. With this requirement, the NHS can be free to make the right local decisions and the industry will be clear about what is required from them."
