Care for the long-term
Stroke recovery services have been criticised for lack of regular assessment, tailored care plans and integrated health and social care.
More people now survive strokes than ever before, yet the need to continue delivery of effective care past the point of hospital is essential. Vital support such as physio and speech therapy helps patients to resume their daily lives, and should be offered by trained social care staff, not left to family and friends.
Health does not stop at the hospital door. The NHS cannot afford to dismiss after-care as part of somebody else’s responsibility; either morally or financially.
