Centres of excellence
More and more hospitals are moving towards shared services, reorganisation of certain specialisms and an altogether different approach to delivering care.
While still met with dismay and often protest from the public, several high-profile organisations and medical professionals announcing their support for the new direction seems to have prompted the increase in speed of reform.
Apart from this support, the fact that such changes are no longer preferable, but actually necessary is pushing trusts forward on this issue.
It is in human nature to resist change, especially when it comes to a sensitive topic such as health, but the possibility that reorganisation could actually deliver not just cheaper, but better services is starting to permeate through to service users.
