End of life, not end of care
End of life care is a vitally important aspect of the care pathway, and something which should be confidently and effectively delivered by all types of healthcare staff.
Although the health service’s main purpose is undoubtedly to offer treatments that cure people, the need to ensure all patients are kept as comfortable as possible is something that cannot be forgotten.
All patients deserve this level of care, at all stages of their lives.
Further support for doctors and healthcare professionals must be offered to help imbed effective care into trusts. Training and development would allow knowledge of appropriate practice to be spread throughout the workforce.
