Enjoy responsibly
Contrary to popular opinion, it has emerged that it is actually older drinkers who are posing the bigger risk to their own health and presenting a significant cost burden to the NHS.
Perhaps because socially it is not considered a high-risk age group, and perhaps because these people are expected to be responsible enough without public health intervention, 55-74 year olds have continued to drink to excess, leading to significant health complications.
The new Alcohol Harm Map allows these trends to be tracked across different local authorities, giving councils more data to focus their efforts on improving public health.
But it is a behaviour change that is needed in this case, and persuading certain members of this demographic to do so may prove difficult to say the least.
