High temperatures
Climate change is by far one of the most important issues facing humanity, and along with the economic, political and social consequences, we must now take into consideration the health implications of a heating planet.
By 2080 global temperatures are set to rise by 2-5 degrees Celsius, and it is projected that deaths by hot weather will increase by an incredible 540%. There is also worry for the transmission of malaria and other deadly diseases across the UK, with hot weather making for a greater chance of exotic insects spreading across Europe. The impact of UV radiation causing melanoma is also a topic of discussion, along with concern for the extended pollen season and hay fever.
Preventions are continually discussed, with low-carbon vegetarian diets and opting to walk or cycle featuring regularly. Better diets and increased exercise will definitely contribute to healthy bodies and a healthy planet, but how feasible are these lifestyle choices in the modern day?
