Leaders of the year announced

The finalists for the NHS Leadership Recognition Awards 2012 have been revealed by the NHS Leadership Academy.

The awards aim to celebrate outstanding leadership practice in health and recognise those who have made a significant impact on improving patient outcomes and well-being.

Finalists include nurses, surgeons, managers and directors, health trainers and dieticians. The awards are split into nine categories and candidates are nominated by their peers before going through a three-stage judging process.

Jan Sobieraj (pictured), managing director at the NHS Leadership Academy, said: “The 2012 finalists’ stories show clearly just what can be achieved through outstanding leadership across the system. They have all, one way or another, created environments where the people around them feel embowered to develop and flourish. This in turn impacts upon the outcomes for our patients and their well-being.

“It's people like these who are also providing the industrial levels of innovation we need to meet the massive challenges that lie ahead of our healthcare system. I'd like to congratulate them all for reaching the shortlist and to thank them for the inspirational work they do.”

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on December 10.
