Ed Miliband is to set out how patients should have the same legal right to treatment for mental illness as for physical illness, in a concerted effort to scrap stigma and improve outcomes.
This is just another instance of how far we still are from parity between mental and physical health.
The battle to improve this balance will take both an increase in public acceptance, and the NHS stepping up to provide access to proven treatments. It is still the case that widespread ignorance around mental health is impacting on the availability of, and confidence to access, treatment for mental illness.
