Mandates and go-live dates
The Government clearly thinks its pledge to properly digitise people’s relationship with their GP – meaning a viewable electronic health record, online appointment booking, repeat prescription ordering over the internet, and more – is a vote-winner.
That’s the section of the NHS Mandate, the Government’s ‘contract’ with the NHS National Commissioning Board, that it’s chosen to flag up to the media this morning, and it certainly has grabbed some attention.
‘Within three years’, the newspapers say, every patient in England will be able to do these things. Obviously, with the demise of the NPfIT, all such plans have are being locally operated – but the online reaction has been well-informed cynicism about under-performing IT systems rarely living up to the promise.
