Marking milestones
Today marks a significant milestone for the NHS reforms, as the first CCGs are authorised to start taking responsibility of the NHS Commissioning Board budget.
It is welcome news to hear that eight of the first wave CCGs met all authorisation criteria, demonstrating clear evidence of forward planning and robust leadership in place.
Additionally, in response to the abuse uncovered at Winterbourne View, the Government is setting up plans to move people with long-term conditions such as autism, learning difficulties and mental health issues into community care.
This is great progress towards effective integration of care, as well as a step up in patient safety and quality standards.
As the NHS moves towards its new landscape next April, these steps may well demonstrate the need for change, as well as the huge potential available for moving forwards.
