NHS Confederation: Government right to recognise inspirational work

As the UK Government took time in the latest Downing Street press conference to praise the inspirational work going on in primary care and across the healthcare system, NHS Confederation have reiterated the message.

Representing organisations across the healthcare sector, NHS Confederation have watched as members from all aspects of the healthcare service have stepped up during the coronavirus outbreak.

With the country looking to the future and the potential lifting of some lockdown restrictions, its as important as ever to both remember and rightly praise the incredible work which has been done throughout our health service to ensure we are in such a position to consider moving out of lockdown – and that even as we do, we respect all guidance to ensure that all the inspirational work done isn’t in vain.

Ruth Rankine, PCN Network Director at the NHS Confederation, said: “As the nation sets its sights on emerging from lockdown, it is incredibly important that this is done safely and in a way that continues to protect the NHS.

“It was pleasing to hear NHS England and NHS Improvement's medical director of primary care Dr Nikki Kanani recognising the hard work and dedication from across the system, including the wide range of primary care services.

“We have seen a rapid transformation across these services, with staff adapting to new ways of working and delivering care to patients that we must build on as the NHS resets after Covid-19.

“However, we need to see this welcome recognition backed up by greater support from Government for primary care services, including ensuring they have adequate supply to PPE and easy access to testing.

“As Dr Kanani said the NHS remains open for anyone who needs it, including over the Bank Holiday weekend. This is the NHS, not the Covid-19 Health Service, and it is important that if you are unwell you seek treatment.”
